BRIGADE SOLDIER DIES Sgt. Mitchell Ray Morgan, 25, a soldier with the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, died Sept. 27 from a workplace accident at his civilian job on the east side of Indianapolis. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home, 5463 Kentucky Ave., Indianapolis. Morgan’s funeral will be held there the following day at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, with full military honors. A highly regarded soldier, Morgan was posthumously promoted to sergeant and also awarded the Army Achievement Medal. According to his obituary, Morgan “was a proud member of the Indiana Army National Guard” and a “strong, independent young man who loved outdoor activities especially when it involved his beloved dog, Penelope, who was always by his side.” Morgan graduated from Decatur Central High School in 2006. His parents were Terry and Rhonda Morgan, who survive him. “The family is extremely happy to have so much involvement from the military,” said a statement from the Indiana National Guard, “and invite all to attend the service and funeral.”
