BUDA, TEXAS: TIMES THERE ARE A CHANGING: I noticed in the Austin paper that our old friend Gay Ruby Dahlstrom died. The family is gonna have a private ceremony on their ranch west of Buda. Not many of us ole ranch-timers left. I called Bro. Gil and asked him if he had seen the obit, and, he said he had. Then he started to reminisce about the ole days and said, you know brother, when I stated Buda school back in the early 30s (Brother is 4 years my senior) Jimmy Ruby (Gays brother) was in the grade ahead of me, Jack Dalhstrom (Gays future husband) was in my grade, and Gay, was one grade behind us. We visited a bit more about who we could remember. I told him when I started there in 39, Sonny Cochran was in my class, as was Clyde Lowther, Aubrey Lowden and Dan Serven. We still rode the bus in every day from the ranch up toward Driftwood and I remember that Jimmy Ruby rode with us then. I also remember that it rained a lot that year and when we got to the low water crossing on Onion Creek that led into Buda, the water was pretty high coming across the road, so Jimmy Ruby, jumped out of the school bus and waded across the rising water to be sure it was alright for the school bus to cross. It was and we did. Can you imagine any of that happening in todays crazy world? Times are achanging around Buda, Texas these days in Tidbits from Driftwood. MEK
