BWgovernment EDUCATION MINISTRY TO SPONSOR PROGRESSING STUDENTS The Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has said her ministry would sponsor all the 3 644 progressing students and all those to be admitted in the brigades, technical colleges and all other vocational training centers. Speaking in Parliament on August 9, Dr Venson-Moitoi said repeats would not be covered except in exceptional cases such as final year students with a record of good performance in preceding years or where a student had a case of ill health. Minister Moitoi was responding to a question from Gaborone Central MP, Mr Dumelang Saleshando who had asked her to state categories of students that were being sponsored for tertiary education. Mr Saleshando had further wanted the minister to explain conditions that applied for students who had retakes and those wishing to progress to degree levels after completing diploma courses for which they are sponsored by government. He had also wanted to know why previously self-sponsored students who wish to progress with their studies were not considered for government sponsorship. This question was initially answered by Assistant Minister Patrick Masimolole but Minister Venson-Moitoi was requested by the Speaker to furnish parliament with additional information. BOPA
