Back to School Rant... Im reading through my kids 2nd and 4th grade expectations. Were to anticipate 30 minutes to an hour of homework every night! And thats if your kid doesnt struggle with it. I have a lot of respect and gratitude for teachers; theyre expected to practically raise our children during the week, and rarely get the thanks they deserve. However, it seems to me that kids used get all their learning done within the school day, and still ended up learning more than kids today. I dont remember ever having homework until I was in high school- I was a KID! I came home and played, you know, lived a BALANCED life. Theres supposed to be time between school, dinner, and bed for children to PLAY. Whats happening in school that renders the school day insufficient to properly educate our children?
