Bad Karma on the Kippur was the first video I ever directed. It - TopicsExpress

Bad Karma on the Kippur was the first video I ever directed. It was made for a 24-hour film festival in which we had 24 hours to write, direct, edit, and score a piece for the contest. It began with an e-mail at 11 PM where the theme of karma was assigned. The video also had to feature someone watering a plant in it somewhere. I spent the next few hours furiously writing this piece to accommodate the actors and family members that had already graciously agreed to appear in it (thanks Benjamin J. King, Jerry Ying, Ross Mackenzie, and Brady Smith). We shot first thing in the morning on the steps of a local synagogue in Santa Monica. Unfortunately, I forgot that it was Saturday morning and the congregants were none too pleased we were shooting on their steps. We were quickly ushered away and forced to film the rest of the spot in the doorway of what used to be Dagwoods Pizza. At the end of filming my gardner showed up to play a cameo as the guy watering a plant. I rushed over to Spotwelders where Paul Sabater cut the spot and a talented young composer, who is now an actor, scored it (spacing on his name now, sorry). With only minutes to spare I rushed the spot across town to Hollywood and just beat the 24-hour deadline. I believe it won a couple awards at the festival, but the real surprise was when it went on to get millions of hits on YouTube. Hope you enjoy it.
