Barbara, a lady I used to teach with, who I thought was a right wet soppy prat, and who has since won the Romance Writer of America Award, used to say that to write good Romance you cant be cynical about love because the reader picks up on it. She also said that you must fall in love with your characters, and fall in love along with your characters. All I could think was They are sodding fictional. What sort of ditz would you have to be to fall in love with folks who dont exist? Well, yeah, shes shes got millions of readers right around the world so I have to confess shes right ... and Ive now realised I really dont have it in me. Im more of your average Mystery/Detective writer. Nonetheless if they decide to buy this one, and pay me to write it, I will absolutely endeavour to totally try, try, try.
