Barn Kitty Update for 06 January 2015: Hi Gang, It was an interesting morning to say the least. Six inches of snow and the new reality of road salt in short supply made the roads and Interstate 75 lots of fun. Before I left home I had pulled out the snow blower and did my and three neighbors’ driveways and sidewalks. Then I bundled up and loaded up the car and headed north. Traffic was slow and the roads were treacherous—but at least people were being careful. It was about twice the normal driving time. I was hoping I wouldn’t have a problem with the hills on the farm driveway but zipped right up and down them twice (an explanation for that later). When I arrived, I had two large bags of dry food to carry in. Before I did anything else I shoveled a path from the SUV to the barn door. It was warm and dry in the stalls—about 53 degrees. I turned up the heaters just a bit because tonight is supposed to be below zero. Treats were served on the patio but only seven kitties wanted them enough to come outside. The patio was mostly dry. There was just a little dusting of snow on the north and south ends. The babies must have though the snow was the end of the world. When I arrived three of the dry food dishes and two of the four water bowls were completely empty. They must have been getting ready to hibernate. Did all the usual chores and changed out two litter boxes. Walking through the snow to the waste pile was lots of fun. The rest of the chores were a snap. Got to pet lots of babies. Even Pumpkin was waiting for treats and as soon as they were eaten headed into the barn for breakfast. The entire time I was cleaning the stalls the smoke detector was beeping. It was driving me crazy. So, after the chores were finished I went to the truck stop and purchased a new 9 volt battery. Went back to the barn and changed the battery just to silence the darn thing. It worked. Not much else going on. I saw everyone but Smoke—nothing unusual in that. I have the duty again tomorrow so will get another update out then. Enjoy the pictures and be safe in the cold and snow…
