Barotse Activists Mobilise Funds with Account in Botswana Barotseland Activists have officially started mobilising funds for their activities as more than 80 of their members languish in jail on treason charges. A recent statement by the Barotse Movement, the activists have opened a bank account in Botswana and are asking for a minimum contribution of an equivalent of US $1 (about K5, 000 old currency, K5 rebased) from Lozis in Zambia and abroad. The group, predominately based in Western Province, Zambia, is demanding separation on account of the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 which President Michael Sata promised to honour when elected in 2011. One of those currently facing treason charges is former Barotse Premier Clement Sinyinda who is locked up with 80 others. Below is a statement by the Barotse National Movement With due respect, we wish to inform all Barotseland Nationals wherever they are, abroad and locally, that a Trust account has been opened for Barotseland. This is not an account for a certain group of people, organization, or alliance or movement but for the Nation of Barotseland. It is a well known fact that Barotseland had her Native Bank; but alas Zambian government looted our Bank and swindled 78.5 million British pounds. Wisdom teaches that once beaten twice shun. Having this knowledge we have decided not to open this account with any bank in Zambia; because if they looted our bank then; what can stop them from doing the same now. Since this is a crucial moment when we want to reconstruct and rebuild our country Barotseland, we humbly request every Barotse National to contribute at least K5.00 (K5,000.00 un-rebased Kwacha) or equivalent, as a collective effort for the betterment of our country. However, the contribution is open to those who can donate more than that. Sympathizers, allies, well wishers, corporate world, donors and those with the desire to subscribe should contact the Financial Controller or Barotseland Government Web Portal barotseland for details TRUST ACCOUNT, FIRST NATIONAL BANK (FNB), BOTSWANA.
