Baseball Victoria supports new National U14 development pathway The 2014 -15 summer season will provide Baseball Victoria’s Under 14 players with exciting opportunities to develop alongside their teammates in a new, nationally aligned player development pathway. After lengthy industry research and stakeholder consultation, Baseball Australia’s former National Player and Coach Development Manager Peter Gahan, championed the new Baseball Australia endorsed National Player Pathway. Most significantly, Peter’s research has led to a National understanding of the benefits of minimising early selection within the transitional junior age groups, and it’s with this knowledge that Baseball Australia has retracted the historical U14 National Youth Championships and pledged to implement the following critical programs in 2014/15. Little League International – Junior League Players born between 1 May 2000 and 30 April 2003 • Will be eligible to participate in Little League International - Junior League State Championships. Tournament will be held in the January/February 2015 period at a venue to be confirmed. • Top finishers will qualify to compete in Little League International – Junior League National Championships. This tournament will be held in April 2015. In alignment with Little League International and Baseball Australia’s National Pathway, Junior League is the next progression beyond the current Little League International – Major League. Currently being introduced Australia wide, Major League is fast becoming a significant driver of participation and player development at the Under 12 level, and it’s only fitting that our Under 14 participants experience the many benefits of this exciting program, Junior League. Little League Major will again be the first level of the National Competition Pathway, and will underpin the new Junior League. Players born between 1 May 2002 and 30 April 2004 are eligible for both Little League Major and Junior League. It is important to note that player’s eligible by DOB for both Little League Major and Junior League need to choose which competition they would like to participate in, as they cannot do both. NOTE: Both Little League Major and Junior League will run using the Club based Charter system. Dingo World Series Players born between 1 May 2000 and 30 April 2003 • Will be eligible to be selected on teams traveling to compete in the Dingo World Series in January 2015. Dates for tryouts are yet to be confirmed but will be available shortly. The Dingo World Series is a brand new International Tournament directed by former Major League All Star and current Baseball Australia Hall of Fame Inductee - David Nilsson. The tournament, which is fully sanctioned by Baseball Australia, will be held on Queensland’s Gold Coast and players will have the chance to test their skills against interstate teams, as well as international teams from the United States, Japan and Korea. Baseball Victoria fully supports these critical programs over the coming 2014/15 season and encourages all eligible players to participate. These programs are a must for development, participation and most of all FUN!! It’s the FUN that gets us started, and it’s the FUN which keeps us involved, and it’s with this philosophy that Baseball Victoria endorses any opportunity for kids to have FUN on a baseball field. For more information please contact [email protected] or call us on 9645800. It is critical that Baseball Victoria aligns its programs to the National Pathway set by Baseball Australia, whilst making sure its key stakeholder groups stay fully informed of the process, and the impact it will have on Associations & Administrators, Clubs, Coaches, Players and their families. Further information on dates, times, and venues will be determined shortly, along with a Victorian Player Pathway document.
