Baseball begins at Clark and Addison APRIL 23, 1914 Nearly 21,000 festive fans braved chilly winds to welcome manager Joe Tinker and the Chicago Federals of the recently established Federal League to the team’s new home at Addison and Clark streets, Weeghman Park. In the pregame festivities, 100 members of the El Bravo Club, wearing colorful gold and red sashes, tried to stage a mock bullfight using a steer from the stockyards representing the Mexican leader, Victoriano Huerta. The steer, however, was reportedly stubborn and refused to play its part. Then, with the pomp completed, the Federals trounced the Kansas City Packers 9-1. The stadium, known at the time by several names including Weeghman Park, was built in early 1914 in less than seven weeks. It had a single deck of seats that held 14,000 people.
