[Based on my own experience] I think one of the reasons why relationships and marriage fail is the failure to communicate effectively on crucial and important things. For example, someone can be in a relationships for few years but then they are wasting time discussing about, What foods do you like to eat?, Do you like watching this watching that?. Discussing on trivial non-important issues. And then, when they get married and facing serious issues. Things just explode. I never know that you are like this And etc. The same goes with parents as well. Often when it comes to marriage. Parents are mostly obsessed about what colour is our theme, where do we want to the nikah, what package do we want to take? And they rarely ask questions like. What will you do when you lost your job? What will you do if your in-laws get angry and smashes thing? How is your work? Do you find it okay? Do you have other problems? Do you have loans and debts? Who is your colleagues and friends? How often you go to Islamic events? How do you want to raise up kids? Which school you want to send them. And more If none of these are discussed between the men and girl and their parents and their future in-laws, they are mostly just wasting their time. Its time to get serious with marriage and time to have effective communication. Ask serious questions. Allah knows best.
