Be careful this week guys, dont deviate from your original plan - TopicsExpress

Be careful this week guys, dont deviate from your original plan unless you really need to. Some common mistakes I see ironman novices making every time: 1) Seeing that someone else is doing something different to you and changing your plan because you start to question what your going to do. Ignore what others are saying/doing themselves. Stick to your plan. (Unless you really have forgot something such as - you forgot about putting a chain splitter and spare link in your tool kit) 2) Trying something new on race day with regards nutrition. By now you should have your nutrition set pretty much in stone, whatever you have decided to do stick with it. Dont change it. Just adapt it during the race if need be, if you miss a feed station or if you miss your times feed or you have period of time that you feel unwell etc 3) if you feel crap - ie feel as though your hitting the wall - dont ignore it, its inly going to get worse if you do. Dont be afraid to back off on the effort for a while, feed & rehydrate, then when your feeling better crack on with effort again. Even the pros have bad patches, thats what they do, back off, regroup and crack on. 4) Not deflating your tyres when racking your bike. Then finding your tyres have popped when you come to it in the morning. Adding stress. There are plenty of pumps around in the morning, just remember to inflate them!! 5) Pick up a bike bag from the powerbar stand at registration. If it rains overnight then your bike will be dry and more importantly your saddle will be dry. Plus it hides all your bling kit you have on your bike from prying eyes! 6) listening to other people and hearing how much, or how little, training they have/havent done over the last few months. Them you start questioning yourself if youve done enough yourself or if youve done too much etc. Only you know if youve done it right, no one else. Your training has been right for you, trust it. You are on the start line and for most that is an achievement in itself. 7) Spending all day getting wrapped up in the hype of ironman, starting at registration on Friday, then the opening event, pasta party, swim on Saturday, racking bags, the expo, chatting with every man and his dog.... Getting to bed late, getting up early. Come Sunday morning youre knackered before you start! My advice is, simply register, bag up your gear, rack your bike, quick look around the expo and escape. Go home/hotel, put your feet up and relax. These are just a few things, Im not saying you should do any of them as its just my opinion of what I have seen novices do/forget which just adds unwanted stress to an already very stressful time. Good luck everyone, see you all on Sunday :)
