Be easy going on the insolvents: In this materialistic world it - TopicsExpress

Be easy going on the insolvents: In this materialistic world it is difficult to find someone who after losing financially is still not hurt by the loss. Therefore, we find that the people who give out money (as a loan) are less; and lesser than them are those who give respite to the insolvent; and even lesser than them are those who write-off the debt. No wonder Allaah تعالى has assigned great rewards for these actions. Hudhaifah رضي الله عنه reported Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم as saying: “The angels took away the soul of a person who had lived among people who were before you. They (the angels) said: Did you do anything good? He said: No. they said: Try to recall. He said: I used to lend to people and order my servants to give respite to one in straitened circumstances and give allowance to the solvent. Then Allaah تعالى said (to the angels): {You should ignore (his failing).}” [Saheeh Muslim (4076)] Abu Mas`ood and Hudhaifah رضي الله عنهما were together in a gathering. Hudhaifah رضي الله عنه said: A person met his Lord (after death) and He تعالى said: {What (good) did you do?} He said: I did no good except that I was a rich man, and I demanded from the people (the repayment of debt that I advanced to them). I, however, accepted that which the solvent gave and remitted (the debt) of the insolvent, whereupon He تعالى said (to the angels): {You should ignore (the faults) of My servant}. Abu Mas`ood رضي الله عنه said: This is what I heard Allaahs Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم as saying. [Saheeh Muslim (4077)] `Abdullaah bin Abu Qataadah reported that Abu Qataadah رضي الله عنه demanded (the payment of his debt) from his debtor but he (the debtor) disappeared; later on he (Abu Qataadah) found him and he (the debtor) said: I am hard up financially, whereupon he (Abu Qataadah) said: (Do you state it) by Allaah? He said: By Allaah! Upon this he (Abu Qataadah) said: I heard Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم as saying: “He who loves that Allaah saves him from the torments of the Day of Resurrection should give respite to the insolvent or remit (his debt).” [Saheeh Muslim (4083)]
