Be sure to see Food Chains later this month, a new documentary that exposes the abuse of farmworkers in the US and the complicity of the multibillion dollar supermarket and fast food industries. Farm workers are successfully pressuring fast food and grocery chains to pay them higher wages (for tomato pickers, they want one more penny a pound, which will double their salaries, yes, a penny) and refuse to buy tomatoes from farms with human rights violations. In the film, food activist Eric Schlosser says that if a handful of companies decided they wanted to eliminate poverty and exploitation among farmworkers, it could happen very, very quickly. A pre-taped interview with director Sanjay Rawal will air on Your Call on Thanksgiving.
