Because of something my buddy Holly Kassinger Johnson said, I was taken back to a time when life was slower and simpler, and thinking of summer afternoons in the 50s. Lots of women, including our mama, would get their work done before lunchtime while it was cooler. Lots of us had the biggest meal of the day around noon, and had the left-overs for supper. There would be an oil cloth on the table, and the food left on the table and covered up with a tablecloth to keep the flies off the food. Windows were up, and screen doors were opened no telling how many times with kids going in and out, so flies were a problem. But in the afternoon, women would go visitin , just clean up a little, put on a clean house dress, little powder and rouge maybe, re-comb their hair and sit with other ladies and chat. Sometimes there was cold lemonade or tea, but lots of times, nothing to eat or drink; just visitin . The kids were out playing, so the ladies could visit uninterrupted. If you had a question or wanted something, you had better NOT interrupt, but wait your turn to talk...........Those were probably very hard times for our parents, but we never heard them whine or complain. Seems like they just took life as it came and dealt with whatever happened. Such wonderful memories, and I am so thankful for having grown up in that era.........Not much money, but they didnt talk about that in front of the kids, either. They tried to protect us from the harsh things of the world as long as they could. Apologize for the long post;;;;;;;;;just thinking and remembering those pleasant afternoons;;;;;;;;;;;;
