Becoming a Jack Webb fan long after his shows went off the air and into reruns, has instilled a deep admiration, love, and adoration for him. He was one of the greats toward the end when The Golden Age of Radio began to fade and conceived a groundbreaking series that changed the way people look at broadcasting history forever. He was also a huge noteworthy pioneer when television was still in its infancy and paved the way for realistic crime shows. He was a true American Hero who grew up in the depths of the poorest neighborhood in Los Angeles and on top of that survived as a sickly asthmatic boy in the poverty-stricken 1920s and Depression-era 1930s. Knowing in heart when he really wanted to do with his life, he spent endless hours of educating himself in the craft of broadcasting, acting, and television. When success finally came he remained the same, modest, genuine person he always had been. In his line of work, he knew exactly what he wanted and go the job done. With any of his projects, successful or not, he always went above and beyond the call of duty. He got everything right, down to the last, miniscule detail. Jack was one who did not accept handouts, take the easy way out, or blame others for flops--he knew when it was his fault and apologized for it. Although he worked a grueling schedule in which he suffered three failed marriages, he still treated everyone--co-workers, ex-wives, friends, fans with decency and a huge respect. He treated them well. He had a heart of gold. Jack was someone you could honestly look up to and would never disappoint. I feel my life has brightened knowing and learning about this extraordinary person named Jack Randolph Webb. Had he lived, Jack wouldve turned 94 tomorrow on April 2nd. We all dearly miss and love you and always will. Thank you, Jack, for being yourself. This picture was made by a good friend of mine. It was sent to me on my birthday, but I felt this was appropriate for Jacks birthday as well!
