Before I Go To Sleep (2014) Plot: Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth - TopicsExpress

Before I Go To Sleep (2014) Plot: Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong star in this adaptation of the bestselling novel by S. J. Watson. Christine Lucas (Kidman) suffers from anterograde amnesia, waking up every day without any knowledge of who she is. Christine regularly visits Dr. Nash (Strong) who, with the help of her understanding husband Ben (Firth), is assisting her with the recovery of her memories. When Dr. Nash takes her to the place where she was attacked to try to reconstruct the event in her mind, Christine realises that she may be better off not remembering... Review: This film got on my nerves after a while because it just seemed to be going nowhere. You really dont know whose lying or telling the truth and once the plot comes together, I really wasnt that bothered. I think that the problem is Nicole Kidmans dull acting along with the storyline which is way too slow. Basically its about a woman who wakes up with memory lose, everytime that she goes to sleep. With the advice from her doctor, she starts to keep a video diary so she can piece together her past which leads to some very dark places. The movie is watchable because you want to find out who isnt telling the truth and who is her true friend but it all becomes a bit tedious after a while. I dont understand why Kidman just didnt go to the police right from the beginning so she could find out who these people were in her flashbacks. Anyway, Im sure that there are people who would like this mysterious type thriller but I personally struggled to stay awake. Average! Round-Up: Nicole Kidmans movies have been really boring of late. Ive never really rated her as an actor because she doesnt do anything out of the box, but its good to see that she kept up her acting career after the whole Tom Cruise fiasco. From the strange Stoker, The Paperboy and The Prince Of Monaco, she has played some versatile roles but she seems to act the same. Ive always liked Mark Strong, who plays the doctor, but he just seemed to be saying Im Doctor Nasch through this whole film which became a bit annoying. Colin Firth was quite a convincing dark person who knew how to turn on and off the charm towards Kidman, but his lies werent that well orchestrated. On the whole, it really needed some interesting twists and some exciting characters to boost this one toned movie. Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: $15million I recommend this movie to people who are into their drama/mystery/thrillers about a woman who keeps on waking up with memory lose and decides to investigate her past with the help of her doctor. 3/10
