Beginning in 1910 Iowa was represented in the U.S. Capitols - TopicsExpress

Beginning in 1910 Iowa was represented in the U.S. Capitols Statuary Hall Collection by Governor Samuel Kirkwood and Governor James Harlan. It remained just that way for over a hundred years. That was when (2011) the state legislature voted to replace Senator Harlan with Dr. Norman Borlaug. That exchange finally took place just this year. Before you feel sorry for poor Senator Harlan remember that his statue was returned home where it was permanently loaned to Iowa Wesleyan University by the State of Iowa. Harlan had served as that institutions president so I like to think hed be back at a place he loved right here in the fair state of Iowa. Anyway when that happened there was some discussion of also replacing Kirkwood. Borlaug having made ag advancements that feed millions was an obvious choice. The replacement for Kirkwood not so much. That said imagine for a moment you got to pick. Your choice would represent Iowa in the US Capitl. Tell us who you would chose and why.
