Beginning on October 1, 2014, NIH requires all Principal Investigators to include in their annual progress report a section to describe how individual development plans (IDPs) are used to identify and promote the career goals of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers associated with the award. The Office of Research and The Graduate School have created university-wide IDP guidelines and forms for USC’s postdoctoral scholars and graduate students. While the use of IDPs is currently required for graduate Students and postdoctoral scholars funded by NIH grants, the Office of Research and The Graduate School strongly encourage the use of IDPs for all USC postdoctoral scholars and graduate students because it identifies professional development opportunities and milestones, as well as providing a written framework for career planning of the trainees. Learn more about IDPs here: bit.ly/1v0pcWO. Questions regarding IDPs for postdocs may be directed to Dr. Lauren Clark, Research Program Manager in the Office of Research ([email protected]), and questions regarding IDPs for graduate students may be directed to Dr. Murray Mitchell, Associate Dean of the Graduate School ([email protected]).
