Below are the latest updates for construction along I-85 and I-485 around Cabarrus County The interchange of I-485 and I-85 will be completed June 2014 I-485 to Exit 49, all lanes will be open by December 2013 Exit 49 to Hwy 73 – April 2014 The I-485 last loop to connect to I-77 – November 2014 I-85 up to George Lyles, Exit 54, - February 2014 The DOT will start construction on the extension of George Lyles within a month and complete it to Hwy 29 and onto Hwy 49 – September 2017 The rail project to UNCC is to be completed by October 2017. Construction to begin first or second quarter of 2014. The train will run down the center of Hwy 29 to UNCC and the stop will be at the intersection of Harris T & Hwy 29. The area will be under dramatic construction, making travel on Hwy 29 and the university area difficult.
