Below is Terry Hs Journey into The Ultimate Foodie Experience and just how far a Sandie will go 372 miles Sausage Samich Day Trip ( Here a short synopsis Sets the Stage for whats about to occur, lets call this an overture) 372 milers later The Sandie Day Trippers are back safe and not so sound at least mentally obviously. Yep keeping an old Sandie tradition alive, ride for food, hang the distance. , Three, Sam, Chuck J and tis I , not real bright but determined Sandies left Joe’s at 7 , met mental case #4 in Freeport Terry H. I’ll let Terry fill in the blanks but we did day trip, ate sausage, rode those simply fantastic Canopy roads . Stayed awhile at the Capital City Challenge and watched some incredible Motorcycling Skills and Motored home. Sunday looks like a wash, no pun intended, well maybe a little. It truly was a great ride and the roads were fantastic and that’s what it’s all about. Terry H’s take on the 372 miles Sausage Samich Day Trip Trip’N to Tally On Friday night I looked at the weather forecast and between the computer, iPhone and iPad the rain chance ranged from 10% to 80%. Seriously? Well I decided to roll the dice and was glad I did. I met up with the other 3 in Freeport and off we went east down Hwy 20. Even though the temp was not really too cool and no wind to speak, there was still a crispness in the air making me realize I could have dressed in 1 more layer. No worries, it is going to warm up later. The sunshine was brilliant and just a few wisps of white clouds here and there. All in all an awesome morning to be riding. After fueling up at Hwy 77 we continued on our way to Tally. With the exceptional 1 or 2 vehicles here and there we pretty much had the road to ourselves. As we started getting closer we crossed the river leaving Liberty County and entered into Leon County where the blacktop had been recently repaved. What is it about newly paved blacktop roads that seem to make the scenery so much better? Once we hit the edge of Tally we headed north on Capitol Circle and hit the interstate. Whoa, that’s real life out there. A couple of exits down, we jumped off and headed back south. As we approached the intersection George wanted to turn left at he quickly realized the left turn was closed with barricades. No problem we will go down and make a u turn (what else). So we did. Get back to the intersection and the right turn lane is barricade preventing traffic from going down that road. No problem we will just go around that – watch out for those 2 “Road Closed” signs in the middle of the street – oh guess that means everyone else – not Sandies. So we treated those as we do speed limit signs – they are just suggestions. haha So down the road we went, wondering why it was closed – oh there it is - no more concrete. So we regrouped and found a way around the closed section. After a 2nd fuel stop we headed up to Bradley’s for sausage. It is located on one of the Canopy Roads. Not all of the trees had recovered from the harsh winter but it was still a very scenic ride. I intend on getting back and riding them later in the summer when all the greenery will be back in full growth. After 11 miles of an awesome riding road we ended up at our 1st destination – lunch. Bradley’s is on Centerville Road and is located in what appears to be an old raised house complete with rocking chairs on the front porch. The setting and surroundings are something else. Photos don’t really do it justice. You just have to see it for yourself. My 1st time here so I had to try the sausage - smoked. This is a full foot long sausage link on a foot long bun. I added the sautéed onions and peppers (thinking they would be green bell peppers – that’s what I get for thinking) and some brown spicy mustard. The drink cooler was stocked with some old time favorites. I chose a Nehi Orange – in a glass bottle. Back to the front porch to find a place to enjoy the meal we drove 3 hours for. The sausage was very tasty, the onions were good and the peppers were not green – they were yellow – and quite spicy. Being originally from Louisiana, my taste buds were able to manage the heat without embarrassing myself too bad. It wasn’t really THAT hot but I probably won’t do the peppers next time. We enjoyed our lunch on the porch soaking up the warm sunshine and breezes. It was finally time to move on. We gathered ourselves together and headed back toward Tally but on a couple of different Canopy Roads. I really do need to come back and ride these in the summer. After winding our way to the downtown area, we began our search for the FSU stadium where the Capitol City Motorcycle Challenge was being held. The best way to describe this part of the adventure would be to say George is the mouse in the maze looking for the cheese. Only this maze has options at every turn – as opposed to real mice mazes that have a single route to follow. Thank goodness there was only 3 of us following him. Well he did finally find the cheese. We found a spot to hang out and watch the LEOs perform a number of different skills. Be on high alert that George is now considering some of these exercises for our own skills days – I already feel a cold coming on and don’t think I will make that one. As George and I discussed, even the worst was probably 10x better the best of us. But then again that is their office where they live and breathe every day. So with the time getting late and us wanting to be back at a reasonable hour we saddled up and headed west. As the miles wore on we lost our sunshine and the clouds began taking their place. At our final fuel stop on 77 and 20 we looked and saw that the rain was still well west of home and we should be ok to make it. At 331 and 20 I left the group and headed south. I reached home still dry and smiling from one great riding day. I hope those who didn’t make ours made some sort of ride today. It was just too nice of a day not to have been riding. Terry H
