Below is a report from the Visayan Daily Star sa Bacolod last March 20, 2014. The report is about the graduation of the Seminarians where one of our paryente was among the top - Cum Laude. visayandailystar/2014/March/20/negor2.htm Fifteen seminarians graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Philosophy at the St. Joseph Seminary College of the Diocese of Dumaguete during its 51st liturgical graduation exercises Monday. Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes was the main celebrant and preacher at the Mass concelebrated with other members of the local clergy, and the SJSC alumni-priests from religious congregations. Msgr. Glenn Corsiga, rector of the St. Joseph Seminary College, said it was the largest batch of graduates of the seminary in over a decade and a half. Two of the seminarians Diosdado Antequisa Jr. and Kevin Joseph Lim, graduated cum laude. Both are from Mabinay, Negros Oriental. The other graduates are Bryan Kem Autor of Bayawan City, Vincenzo Angelico Balsamo of Manjuyod, John Paul Castro - Ayungon, Leo Estomagulang - Mabinay, Jonathan Futalan - Siaton, Junnel Garingo - Jimalalud, Vincent Mesahon - Basay, Rhoed Dionesio Ouano Jr. - Tanjay City; Lee Marvin Parong - Dumaguete City, Rey Albert Ruelo of Bayawan City, Mark Jason Sasing – Sibulan, and Junifer Toreno and Ian Roger Valdez of Mabinay. In his homily, Cortes congratulated the graduates, and cited their parents, benefactors, sponsors, parish priests, and other community sectors for their contributions to the seminarians’ achievements. He said the graduation ceremony is not just the recognition of an individual seminarian’s achievement but also the acknowledgment of a community’s collaborative effort to form them into the priests the Church would like them to become. He expressed hope of seeing a rise of vocation for the priesthood and the religious life in the Diocese of Dumaguete. Cortes offered prayers for the graduates through the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph to intercede for them that they may not “go astray” in their efforts to follow the footsteps of Jesus. Corsiga stressed that the most important thing is for the seminarians to be able to continue with their response to the call to priesthood is prayer.*
