Besides being immensely proud of my nephew, Rob McNulty and his friends for saving this teens life, I also now realize there are some important learning points from this story, as well as some other stories from this past holiday weekend about the dangers of our ocean that we sometimes take for granted. And by the these learning points I am not implying that this teen didnt know the following; on the contrary, an accident happened and this teen was fortunate enough to have some bystanders close by that DID happen to know all 3 points and put them into action! 1. Respect the ocean. Learn to swim in the ocean and not be afraid of becoming well versed in ocean safety. Understand rip currents and how to spot them from the shore. Know what to do if you get stuck in a rip current. 2. Learn CPR! Its a simple class. It could save someones life. 3. Listen to the life guards. They are well versed in ocean safety and know when it may not be safe to be out swimming. 4. Teach the above 3 points to your children!! Especially if they will be growing up in beautiful So Cal. This is how we grew up-and now our kids are confidently doing the same. :) abcnews.go/US/men-rescue-drowning-teen-thought-dead/story?id=24464088
