Best wishes to you and your families on this U.S. holiday to celebrate the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was instrumental in freeing America from the scourge of legally-sanctioned racial discrimination. Last night we watched a documentary by American Experience that covers Kings work from his Easter 1963 protest against segregation in Birmingham, Alabama, to his assassination in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Here is a clip from the documentary. Move to the 4:00 minute mark for rare footage of Dr. King describing the most frightening moments he had experienced as a civil rights activist. Surprisingly, one of his worst experiences was during a civil rights march in Chicago. During that march, racist counter-demonstrators were so vicious that they even scared the police.
