Between rented crowd and sincere hearts; OKOWA VS UDOM When I was invited to the declaration of Udom Emmanuel for Governor in Akwa Ibom State, I refused to attend it, not because I disrespect Udom or do not support his candidacy, but I already had an engagement to attend the declaration of Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa in Delta State, which I finally did. The venue of the Okowa declaration could be likened to the arrival of a President, and what was amusing was that all those who came did so voluntarily, with non demanding for attendance fees or destroying any properties. It was a show of sincere voters coming to show solidairty to the man they have come to adore as EKWUEME. A day after the amiable Senators declaration, came the mother of all declaration in Akwa Ibom State, where the the SSG did his. In truth, his attendance dwarfed that of Okowa, like the crowd of a those coming to write the Nigerian Immigration Service exams, but there was a string attached; more than half of the crowd were rented. Unable to get their appearance fees, as if they are footballers, they descended on the campaign team with riot spread along Nsikak Eduok Avenue, where Udoms campaign office is located. All the angry crowd who demanded for their N2000 fees stoned Udoms campaign officials with bottles and other instruments, with the office nearly set on fire and vehicles vandalised, according to eye witnesses. Eith shouts of Give us our money, they changed the campaign slogan to Udom is wrong instead of the Udom is right slogan. The Okowa vs Udom campaign team will stand out as a test for many aspirants who will let their personality pull followers than rent crowds who have made up their minds to vote for other aspirants. I await the declaration of other Delta aspirants.
