Bid to fund more coral farms Jone Kalouniviti Monday, March 17, 2014 The 2013 coral exporter of the year, Walt Smith International (WSI), will discuss with a leading international marine conservation group the possibility of funding the establishment of 45 coral farms around the country. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has one of the largest professional global conservation networks in the world. WSI director Walt Smith said their future plans for a massive reef restoration in 45 villages would be discussed with IUCN reps. The IUCN has been the leading light in marine-protected areas in Fiji and are very well-backed, said Mr Smith. This meeting will be our very first sit-down to look at our plans of establishing 45 village farms as a self-sustaining and income-generating project for villagers and also to improve our export stock for the future.
