Big thanks to John Ellis for this rarity. Here are Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur doing the first run-through of the song Bosom Buddies from the Broadway musical Mame. Theres just a rehearsal piano for accompaniment, no orchestra yet. And composer/lyricist Jerry Herman was still refining the song. Youll hear them sing some lyrics ( a pooch and his master, like Pollux and Caster...) that would be replaced by better lyrics before the show opened. And the two stars would find more of the humor in the song in the weeks that followed. But its neat to have this rare look into the rehearsal process. (I got to see them in Mame, watching the show from a box seat at the Winter Garden Theater--a birthday present I never forgot; they were terrific, and I played that cast album to death. This number has always been a favorite of mine.)
