Bill’s 2¢ worth The finger pointing is in full swing after the botched rollout of the federal government’s troubled health care website. One report indicated that during the first week of operation only 2 percent of the 9.47 million visitors were able to begin the application process. The administration blames the contractors responsible for constructing the Obamacare glitch-ridden website. One of the biggest arguments is “they had three years to get it right - and didn’t.” Contractors have fired back that the site’s problems were due to insufficient testing and last-minute changes the government wanted made just prior to “going live.” Today, I saw the headline, “More HealthCare.gov woes: Website loses connectivity.” The feds said the reason was because the company “experienced a failure in a networking component, and planned maintenance to replace it brought down network connectivity to the data center.” A quick translation of the last paragraph ... the system crashed. An increasing number of Democrats have proposed delaying the March 31 deadline for applying for coverage. And, Sen. Joe Manchin is co-sponsoring a bill to postpone the $95 penalty for folks who fail to meet the deadline for acquiring insurance. Why not? The president gave big business an extension. Step up to the plate, Mr. President. It’s time you helped the little guy!
