Birmingham artist, commercial interior designer, and parent of ISS - TopicsExpress

Birmingham artist, commercial interior designer, and parent of ISS alumnae Kelly Kahn brought more than a dozen of her paintings to ISS this morning to talk with student artists about the value of working in a variety of styles and media. Part of the school’s “Art Fuels” yearlong speaker series, Kahn discussed the evolution of her art, the stories behind certain pieces, her plans for several unfinished paintings, watercolors that caused her to “hold her breath” as she worked, and special tools and techniques that she has used to achieve different looks. You can’t necessarily say, ‘Oh, that’s Kelly Kahn’s work,’ because I explore a wide variety of things. This is a passion of mine, she told students, encouraging them to “be flexible” in their art. After her talk, Kahn presented one of her ISS landscapes as a gift to the school. The oil painting shows the site of a trail built over the original Indian Spring by ISS students working on an Eagle Scout project. Thank you so much for sharing your art and your love of Indian Springs School with us today!
