Bishop once titled a poem Over 2000 Illustrations and a Complete Concordance. The title referred to a Christian Bible, but more generally a concordance is a compilation of all the different words used by a given author, and references for their location in the texts. Shakespeares is vast. I wonder which poet born in the 20th century has used the largest number of different words. Ive seen Stevenss, and it is predictably voluminous. Audens would also be a thick book. But which 20th c. poet is likely to have used the widest range of vocabulary?
