Bitter sweet all the messages we keep getting wondering why we are not playing the Country Stampede this year....well same as last year. I absolutely WOULD love to be there performing,,,,,and Im just gonna get something off my chest here. I remember Dustin Evans playing the Beer Garden every year AFTER the main stage was finished...that would be cool if still in that format. Dustin made a huge fan base in one single event and eventually earned himself a spot on the main stage a few years in a row. Now the beer garden has turned into a free music tent with shows going on in between acts on the main stage which works for the event as far as having live music playing nonstop. Here is what I DONT agree with......contests to fill the main stage act....and great Kansas Acts playing for free....I have friends that have won...and hats off to them no doubt...dont get me wrong. In my position and a few others I know...we are out booking and trying to pay bills back at home and cannot afford a month long contest which ends in these battle of the band type of things on weekends. Honestly, I dont even know if this is how they do it anymore. But, we cannot afford to take a weekend off...much less have your band travel 8 hours to play a few songs for no monetary compensation. (Free show passes etc. doesnt pay bills) So we quit entering the radio contests because it just doesnt work for us. We are out promoting our hometowns....our state and our music everywhere we travel every week. I guess my whole deal is I see guys on the lineup on the main stage for the early openers on weekdays that make no sense what so ever......nobody in Manhattan Ks knows who the hell these people are....and instead of having your local, state wide and Ks natives filling the slower day spots on the main stage, some cheesy act from 6 states away gets to play it and all of us Ks artists and local artist around Manhattan have to go through the circus show and jump through hoops in hopes of getting one little 45 min set pouring out our songs on the main stage. Venting over...yall enjoy the weekend! PS..Logan Mize is the best one of the line up for 2014. #Justsaying
