Blessed Thanksgiving! The word of Christ must live in you - TopicsExpress

Blessed Thanksgiving! The word of Christ must live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16 CEB Blessed Thanksgiving to each of you reading this today. I wonder, for all of the claims so many have (yes, especially myself) does the word of Christ live in me (or you) richly? What does it look like to fully embrace the word of Christ, to submit to the authority of Christ instead of the authority of me? Do we really and truly make Jesus the Lord of our life, or do we only seek to have Jesus in charge of the things of our life that dont require us to give up anything? As I prepped the turkey this morning and got it in the roaster I began to reflect on what I am really thankful for. What struck me was how much of my life was thankful for material things, the warm house, having an abundance of food (and yes, it really is an over-abundance as their will only be two of us here to share this meal), for the cars and job, you know the things that are not going to matter one day. Like so many others, I found riches in riches instead of finding riches in what God has done for me. Some might say, but that is what God has done for me. I though am trying to catch myself and instead reflect on what God has truly done, that even while I languished in sin, a Savior, Jesus, God in the flesh, came to show me a better way. The funny thing is, the better way does not consist of money, of things, or even of friends and family, or of health. The better way is embracing the peace that was in Christ Jesus (Col. 3:15), the peace that surpasses all understanding. Material things will come and go. They are never guaranteed. Family and friends are never guaranteed. Health, happiness, wealth, even this place we call America was never guaranteed. What is and has always been guaranteed, Gods love for all of Gods creation. Once I can begin to grasp that I no longer need worry about what tomorrow (or today for that matter) will bring. Instead, in the words written by Daniel W. Whittle in 1883: I know not why God’s wondrous grace To me He hath made known, Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love Redeemed me for His own. Refrain: But “I know Whom I have believed, And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto Him against that day.” I know not how this saving faith To me He did impart, Nor how believing in His Word Wrought peace within my heart. I know not how the Spirit moves, Convincing men of sin, Revealing Jesus through the Word, Creating faith in Him. I know not what of good or ill May be reserved for me, Of weary ways or golden days, Before His face I see. I know not when my Lord may come, At night or noonday fair, Nor if I walk the vale with Him, Or meet Him in the air. Prayer- Lord I give you thanks for your love and grace. You love me in spite of all that I have done against you. Because of this I offer this up for your viewing pleasure as my small way of truly saying thanks! Amen. https://youtube/watch?v=Bk_7wUR2Wdg
