Blithfield Triathlon 2015 Sprint and Olympic Distance Entries Now open - £10 Early Bird Discount for first 150 entered 2nd August 2015 All abilities are welcomed and encouraged to compete, this is an ideal event if you are taking those first few tentative steps into open water triathlon Venue The Blithfield Triathlon takes place in rural Staffordshire at Blithfield Reservoir which provides a stunning visual aspect in a particularly picturesque landscape, the reservoir is located close to Abbots Bromley, above the M6 and below the A50. Between Derby and Uttoxeter. You can enter the Blithfield triathlon as a sprint distance event or the full olympic distance. Making this ideal for those competitors attempting open water triathlon for the first time. The sprint distance will be a 750m swim (1 lap), 20K bike (1 lap) and 5K run (1 lap). Swim 750m - 1 lap sprint - 2 laps Olympic distance The swim takes place in the bottom right hand corner of the reservoir. There will be sufficient safety cover on the water along with a lead and safety canoes. Wetsuits will be mandatory for the swim section. Bike 20K - 1 lap sprint - 2 laps Olympic distance The bike course will be 1 lap for the sprint event and is relatively flat with a few rollers around the scenic lanes of Staffordshire. The course will be marshaled and clearly signposted throughout the bike section. A cycle helmet must be worn throughout. The bike section will be non-drafting. Run 5K - 1 lap sprint - 2 laps Olympic distance After jumping off your bike you will head out onto the out and back run around the edge of the reservoir, to turn on the causeway. The course is mostly on tarmac and footpaths and has some great scenery. A drinks station (High Five) will be at the turnaround and finish line. The run course will be 1 lap for the sprint.
