Blocker Tamikaze (Tamiko Dolan Saame), occasionally known as Spaceman, started her derby career with the Windy City Rollers in November 2009 when she was drafted to the Manic Attackers home team. She played in the Ivy King Cup championship bout in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and picked up a ring in the 2012 edition. Tamikaze stepped down from home team play for the 2014 season, but continued to serve as a bench coach for the Manic Attackers. During her time on the league, she steadily rose through the Windy City travel-team system. She played for B team Second Wind in 2010 and 2011 before cracking the All-Stars roster in 2012, becoming a consistent starter in 2013 and cementing her role as a pack linchpin in 2014. Tamikaze was one of only 4 skaters to play in all 18 of Windy Citys 2014 regulation games. She cites Windy Citys 2014 playoff semifinal upset win over Texas as one of her proudest derby moments. According to her, her games with Team Illinois next weekend will be her final roller derby bouts. Thus far, no one has ever changed their mind about retiring from roller derby, but were hoping Tamikaze will be the first.
