*** Body of Man Recovered from River Tees *** Police can confirm that a body of a man has been recovered from the River Tees in Stockton. Divers were searching for the man who was reported as being in difficulty in the water at around 7:40pm on Monday 21st July. A major search operation was launched and despite the best efforts of emergency services and members of the public, rescuers were unable to find and save the man. Police are not treating the death as suspicious and believe it may have been a tragic accident as a result of the man swimming in the river. Police and fire officers are warning people of the dangers of open water and despite how tempting it may be in hot weather, people can get into difficulty very quickly due to cold temperatures, depth and undercurrents. The body has yet to be formally identified.
