Bolleros clinched the championship title In the 3rd Team Division QMMF bags Game 1 vs Peace Qatar in Pibaq series AILYN AGONIA Qatar Tribune Daily English Newspaper Pictures: RONNIE CASTRO TEAM QMMF defeated Peace Qatar 82-70 in Game 1 of the Best –of-3 Championship Series of Pinoy Basketball of Qatar’s (PIBAQ) 16th Men’s Basketball League (Power Horse Energy Drink – Arizona Trading Co. W.L.L.) held recently. Charlie Herradura, finishing with 16 points, led his team’s campaign to secure the lead in the exciting championship series. Paul David and Glenn Gerbese were also big factors in QMMF victory. QMMF led as much as 18 points in the nail-biting game. But it was no walk in the park for the winners as Peace Qatar were also hot on the hard court led by star player Rodel Mallari. With less than three minutes left in the game, QMMF already secured themselves with an 18-point lead. But the four consecutive two-point shots of Peace-Qatar’s Villarosa while at the same time QMMF missing some crucial baskets narrowed the gap between the two teams to only 10 points. The remaining minute left in the clock was nerve-wracking for both teams and their supporters. Yet, QMMF’s ardent desire to bag the win prevailed in the end. Peace-Qatar is expected to raise the level of their game for Game 2 of championship series. In the 3rd Team Division Championship of the league (non-Pibaq member and non-rated Pibaq member), Bolleros clinched the championship title and took home the cash prize of QR 4,000. MCM team got the first runner-up spot with its player Antonio Atoy being named the Most Valuable Player, Atoy was awarded with an MVP gold ring. Graphitees\Sarah Geronimo Team was placed second runner-up with Events And Beyond Team finishing third runner-up. Other special awardees were Albino Sanidad of Bolleros Team, named Rookie of the Year, and Coach Joseph Gabriola as Best Coach. The Mythical Five comprised Nathaniel Cruz (Bolleros Team), Jayson Largo (Events And Beyond Team), Abelardo Banzil (Graphitees\Sarah Geronimo Team), Crisostomo Isaac (MCM Team) and Antonio Atoy (MCM Team). The league is supported by Boracay Filipino Restaurant, Diana Jewellery & Watches, Happy Journey Travel and August Sports Tailor.
