Bonza Australia Day cobbers! The black dog in these photos is known as Butch and he isnt locked in his home. He just wanders out to say gday when I walk past. Today he followed me all the way home, whereas normally, he heads back meanders off before our destination. We had a bit of a play at in the front yard and he peed on Saraswatis zucchini plant. It will make her grow big and strong like Butch. Seeing the media on how some indigenous Australians feel about Australia Day, its always mixed feelings for me on the 26th of January. I love living in this great country. My ancestors came from Canada and its bloody freezing there so I much prefer the beach life here. The standard and style of living for dogs and humans is beuat in Oz! But maybe not so much for the original inhabitants that got the extremely short straw with the whole genocide thing. Richard told me his best mate was an indigenous kid named Clifford when he was aged 7-9 before Clifford moved to another town. One day Clifford saved Richards dog from serious injury. A bunch of kids where shooting a bow and arrow straight up into the air and then running away. Though the dog did not run. One time the arrow seemed to be coming down right on the dog when Clifford ran in and dive tackled the dog out of harms way at he last moment. Apparently it was freakin amazing and something Richard never forgot. Cliffords family (and a few other families) lived in some dodgy housing commission type place across the road from Richards home. As a young lad Richard saw some full on stuff go down at their place. Police showing up, major fights, regular drinking and Clifford staying over on the occasions when things got totally out of hand. Richard always felt sad and wondered how these people had gotten into such bad shape and ended up living as they did. If you want to learn more about what has happened and is still happening to the indigenous people of this land, I can whole heartedly recommend this documentary by the incredible John Pilger: utopiajohnpilger.co.uk/. Much love to you all on this day, Mister Darcy.
