Both sad and angry that the Conservatives went so far as to pull one of their MPs off the Justice Committee today to prevent passage of my amendment to Bill C-13. This amendment would have added gender identity to the hate crimes section of the criminal code. This has already passed the House of Commons twice and is part of my bill C-279 which has been stuck in the Senate for more than a year. No group in Canada is more subject to discrimination and violence than transgender or gender variant Canadians. This time the Conservatives openly blocked progress toward full equality for all Canadians.
