Boy, Ill tell ya, I was reading this Amazon review for my Scottish ghost story BANSHEES CRY yesterday and I was floored. Talk about a kind, truly thoughtful review. Wow! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 out of 5 stars A spooky, bewitching, one-of-a-kind tale that will captivate the readers attention from beginning to end. A sad story wrapped i, August 18, 2014 By Amazon Customer - See all my reviews This review is from: BANSHEES CRY (A Ghost Story) (Kindle Edition): We start with a blast from the past. A vile, repugnant man who disrespects and violates his wife at Fyvie castle. The story of this womans loss of innocence and abuse is so brutal and horrifying that the whole of Scotland has heard of its existence, then and now. This takes us into modern times where a woman named Jacqueline is overseeing the restoration of the infamous castle and historical Scottish landmark. She has a passion for bringing life back to a dated piece of architecture and renewing the building to its former glory. She takes an instant liking to Fyvie, and cannot wait to delve into its history. This segues seamlessly into Jacqueline consulting one of the locals to inform her of the structures bygone times. But her thirst for knowledge soon drowns her in shocking discoveries and disturbing anecdotes. This seemingly magnificent marvel of construction has a barbaric, insidious past - one that begins to overwhelm and consume her. This is a truly fascinating, and frightfully haunting story. The author has a distinct writing style, a unique stamp in the publishing world. His ease of words and flow of sentences help the narrative gradually unravel. Little by little, piece by piece, he continues to disturb and entertain us. We are informed, educated, and utterly spellbound as the plot thickens. Not to mention, the impressive use of metaphors. His strong skilled use of words provokes a visceral reaction from the reader; whether it be one of fear, disgust, or outrage. Parker leaves no stone unturned. This short story brings to light how different society was centuries ago. I particularly liked the representation of Scots in this brief but bold fiction. They are portrayed as loyal believers, faithful to their country. The place is strife with myths and legends, all of which are believed by Scotlands inhabitants to be true, and stem from an historical event. This faith in folklore adds more depth to an already deep voyage. The imagery is mesmerizing. The castle is depicted wonderfully. A superb castle with a strange aura. Not to mention the nearby towns. Culture is a running theme within the pages, giving the journey meaning and purpose. The enchanting story has a firm setting. In its entirety, the short tale has the foundations of a novel. In a matter of several pages, characters are established, the plot develops, and there is a gradual progression and build up to the climax. When you finish this one, it will be as though you have enjoyed a full length novel. Marks indescribable ability allows us to be absorbed into a mystical world. Each sentence is as compelling as the next. Although Banshees Cry is small in size, it is gigantic in quality. Grasping the elements of a novel, hooking the readers, and genuinely having an interesting and riveting tale to tell. - Wesley Thomas
