Brantford has come a long way in the past two decades. Good leadership at the time the bottom fell out kept our city from becoming just another “rust belt” disaster. Good leadership has pulled us back up onto our feet. We live in a thriving community abounding with opportunities that did not exist even ten years ago. We have come too far to turn back. Difficult decisions face the incoming city council. Brantford faces a sizable infrastructure deficit. We must find a middle road between placing an unfair tax burden on citizens on the one hand and “false economy” on the other. Spending too little now, while we have the opportunity to update city services in a controlled and disciplined fashion, will leave us facing emergency repairs that will cost far more in the long-run. I believe I can bring a balanced voice to council, one which will find the right combination of spending and restraint: neither too much, nor too little, but just right.
