Bratton also made no move toward meeting de Blasio and protesters halfway regarding the tense race relations between the NYPD and communities of color. This would lead one to believe that the commissioner has absolutely no intention of reining in his cops, or of even acknowledging any wrongdoing on the part of the NYPD. This sentiment is furthered when Bratton mentions other grievances that police officers have with the city of New York, and says the problems between the mayor and his force are not just about race: “The issues go far beyond race relations in this city.” While this may be true, Commissioner, you need to stop looking the other way on the issue of race and how your police officers routinely abuse citizens of color. Pretending that they have done nothing wrong won’t help this situation. You should be working with the mayor to solve these problems, not against him.
