Breakfast this morning: Annaleigh ate her oatmeal by herself - TopicsExpress

Breakfast this morning: Annaleigh ate her oatmeal by herself (mommys so proud), when she was done she handed me her bowl ( another proud moment, I start comparing her with other children nearly gloating that my baby is so smart), *these are all first times so far* , she took off her bib (normal, she hates them, but the timing! - perfect, she allows me to clean off her tray(again, normal). Im nearly dancing to the kitchen to get her washcloth to wipe her off Im so proud. I came back with her cloth and she was styling her hair with the oatmeal left on her chubby little hands. *sigh* Humbled by a 15 month old. It reminds me though of the story in Luke 8:18-25. It is about a rich man who is asking Jesus how to get eternal life. Jesus outlines the 10 Commandments telling him he must not be guilty of any of them. The rich man replies that hed kept the Commandments since he was a boy. (Probably with the same kind of pat-on-our-own-back pride I had with Anna this morning) Yet Jesus told him that he was still lacking. Jesus told him that hed have to sell everything he had then give the money to the poor. This made the rich man very sad. He knew he couldnt do what Jesus asked of him. What are we holding back from Jesus? We all fall short, no matter how hard we try we can never be good enough. Only by turning it all over to God, can we receive His gracious gift of eternal life. We cant inherit eternal life, we can buy it, nor can we ever earn it. Take a moment today to search your heart for what youre holding back.
