Breaking news !!! Syracuse will elevate Mike Hopkins to head basketball coach following Jim Boeheims expected resignation. Boeheim is expected to take over as head coach of the New York Knicks where he will be reunited with Carmelo Anthony who will now stay in NY and not opt out. Boeheim has been at Syracuse as a player, assistant and head coach since the early 60s and ranks 2nd alltime in wins for a major college coach. The Hall of Famer has experience coaching NBA players on the last two gold-medal winning Olympic teams , serving as assistant coach. This entire process was put in motion by Mike Montgomery stepping down as head coach at Cal-Berkley and that schools interest in California native Mike Hopkins. The cash-poor university system in California will save money by hiring a coach with the same first name so they will only have to change half of the door plaques and stenciled door windows. Mike Woodson will finish out the season as Knicks coach and is himself rumored to be interested in coaching his alma mater Indiana which embarrassingly missed the NCAA Tournament. Tom Crean could be pushed out to make room for Woodson. The Knicks last championship came in 1972 under Red Holzman. Syracuse won its only national championship on 2003. Today by the way is April 1st.
