Breeders Beware If you host and design your own website like I - TopicsExpress

Breeders Beware If you host and design your own website like I do... I received a phone call yesterday afternoon from a web design company who started the conversation by asking if I was going to CRUFTS this year.. He then went on to tell me that they been on my website and it had been voted it to be one of the best designed dog breeders website in the country... He then proceeded to tell me that he was phoning today with a fantastic offer that he was sure I would want to take up which was that I signed my website over to them for them to go through and edit to improve it where they saw fit and add five free extra pages designed free of charge by them and in return my website would be displayed in their portfolio at CRUFTS as well as on their web design website as one of their websites they had done! Well as you can imagine I was angered by this as many of you will know my website is work in progress as I am always adding bits and pieces to it and it is the result of four years and countless hours of hard work... He then went on to say that my 68 page website that I designed would then be owned by them and it would be used as a template for all the other dog breeders websites they were hoping to design for other breeders! As this point I needed to clarify what he had just said and I said so your asking me to sign over all 68 pages of my hard work from the last 4 years for nothing bar 4 days of display at CRUFTS and a link in your portfolio and you are going to say the whole website was designed by you? His reply was simply yes as my web design manager is very impressed with it and wants to use it oh then he said we will also be able to give you a new domain of something like bostonterriers ... why would I want a new domain name when everything is linked to mumuland .org .uk and why would I agree to sign all my work over for nothing.. The cheak and ordacity of his request made me so angry.. I then asked how they could possibly claim the credit for designing my whole site when they have only designed 5 pages of it his answer was because we have worked on it no matter how small the amount of work they have done that gives them the right to claim it as all their own work! As Paul Dalton so rightly said it equates to STOLEN VALOUR if they claim the credit and financial reward for designing my whole website just because they did 5 small pages HOW CAN THIS BE LEGAL!!! I just wanted to worn other well respected breeders to be on their guard and not to let this fraudulent company take the credit for your hard work!!!i wish I knew who to report this to as I dont see how this can be legal
