Brenda was a 1966 graduate of Gallatin High School and graduated from Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO in 1972, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After graduating from college Brenda was married to Clarence J. Corethers of Trenton, MO. To this union two children were born, Kala Corethers of KCMO and James Corethers of Trenton, MO. Brenda was a member of the RLDS/Community of Christ Church for 58 years where she served in numerous capacities in the Gallatin and Trenton congregations. Brenda served God through serving people. She took care of everybody else, not once taking herself into consideration; a true servant. It was important to Brenda that she stay home to raise her children, teaching part time until Kala and James were of school age, then she taught fulltime spending her entire teaching career at R-6 a school she dearly loved and was a very important part of her. Brenda’s passion for her students went far beyond the classroom. She attended extracurricular activities to support her students with continued support in the form of attending many, many graduations, weddings, baby showers and military successes. Brenda’s interest in her students’ lives was apparent by the hundreds of pictures she would show her family so we could “meet” her students throughout their accomplishments, she did that with so much pride; what fortunate kids. Those proceeding Brenda in death are her parents, John and Reva Tomlinson. Brenda is survived by her husband, Clarence, children, Kala and James. Her sister, Cartha (Gary) Sherman of St. Joseph, MO and nephew John (Erin) Sherman of Prairie Village KS. Additional survivors, Brenda’s step mother, Hazele Tomlinson of Perth, Australia, mother-in-law, Vanetta Jerome and sister-in-law, Donna Davis both of Kirksville, MO, and her soul friend, Sandra (Sandy) Harlow Vyrostek of Gallatin, Mo. Brenda and Sandra’s friendship spanned over six decades and never wavered once; a true friendship. Also surviving, Brenda’s furry, four-legged baby, Molly who was a constant source of entertainment for her. Brenda and her huge, giving heart will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
