Brief Statement on Christian Patrols: The Trustees of the East - TopicsExpress

Brief Statement on Christian Patrols: The Trustees of the East London Mosque are disappointed, and saddened, to note the childish and provocative antics of a fringe neo-Nazi group claiming to carry out so-called ‘Christian Patrols’ outside the mosque last Friday evening. Members of Britain First (BF), a tiny far-right organisation run by a former British National Party councillor in Swanley, Kent, and ex-Nick Griffin protege, Paul Golding, filmed themselves drinking cans of lager, harassing and intimidating passers-by, and handing out inflammatory leaflets for a ‘Christian Patrol’. Claiming they were looking for a confrontation with ‘Muslim Patrols’, most of their actions involved driving up and down Brick Lane in an armoured Land Rover and then swilling beer and unfurling a ‘British Resistance’ banner outside the mosque. The attempt to incite violence from minority communities, in the hope of igniting a backlash against these minorities by mainstream society, is a well-known tactic of extreme rightwingers, inspired by neo-Nazi ideologues. Such agitations as last Friday’s harassment reveal the agitators base intentions and have been reported to the authorities. We urge members of our community to be vigilant and not to engage with these individuals should they return, but to report it to the relevant authorities.
