Brooks School Storm Repair News The hail storm of May 19th hit Brooks hard, but with everyone pulling together, we were able to complete the last three days of the school year. Although boards covered many broken windows on the west side of the building, within the classrooms all was sunshine, as the students looked forward to their summer break. Damage to the building included part of the roof blown off, broken windows, ripped window screens, torn shades imbedded with glass shards, and water and debris throughout those rooms. Quite a cleanup process! A contractor hired by the district has been overseeing the rehab at Brooks, subcontracting with multiple businesses, as well as having USD259 trades working hard, to get the school back into order. All broken glass has been replaced; window screens have been ordered and are yet to be installed. Carpet was replaced in some rooms due to the broken glass. The roof has been worked on to be water tight, but not yet replaced or repaired permanently. The majority of the work is now complete and what is not should not affect our school routine or the students’ learning. We thank the Brooks neighborhood for your understanding and support as we ALL dealt with storm challenges over the summer. From Cindy Smith in the office.
