Built motors and factory engines are still plagued by the same thing: Wear. As mean piston speed increases linearly, cylinder wear increases exponentially. Same goes for cylinder pressure. This means, that no matter what engine you have, the harder you beat (higher boost and higher rpm) on it, the faster itll wear out. So what does a built motor get you? The ABILITY to handle the power and have the engine finally go out from wear and not from component failure (like a piston ring land). That still, however, doesnt mean that itll last very long if you continually pound on it. I feel there is a huge lack of understanding by many of my Subaru customers. Many of them seem to think that a built motor will last as long as the stock motor. It can last as long as a stock engine if you make stock power. However, if you have a built motor you are probably making much more than stock power and you should accept that it wont go 100k miles...
