Bunscoil McAuley Rice. Per Cent for Art Scheme DEADLINE Thursday 5th December 2013. The Public Art working group representing the Board of Management of Bunscoil McAuley Rice primary school, Callan, Co. Kilkenny invite proposals for the c...ommission/submission of a permanent visual artwork(s) in connection with the construction of their new building project. Bunscoil McAuley Rice was established in 2007 as a result of the amalgamation of the two local primary schools in Callan , Co. Kilkenny. The school is currently situated on two separate sites in Callan. The Junior school is situated on the Kilkenny Road opposite St. Brigids College. This building was built by the Mercy order and opened in 1970. It is on this site that construction of a new 16 classroom building is currently underway. Brief Artwork The proposed artwork(s) should be permanent in nature. A wide range of traditional and contemporary media will be considered. Proposals are invited from artists working on their own or in collaboration with others. Location The Artwork(s) will be located at one or more sites within the school environment. The working group has identified a number of internal areas and external sites but this list is not exhaustive. The work may be sited in or/and around the buildings and environs. Theme The theme should explicitly express the ethos of the school. It may however express other themes such as local context, etc as deemed appropriate. Information is available on school website mcauley-rice Criteria for selection • Artistic merit and distinctiveness of proposed artwork (painting, sculpture, mixed media etc.) • Quality of proposal. • Suitability to site. • Durability and implications for future maintenance. • Relevance to the environment/location/context. • Artists track record. • Potential of artwork to meaningfully engage students and establish an enduring legacy. • Health and safety. Applications should if possible include; A current CV , Brief proposal outlining proposed artwork(s), materials and design/concepts. Images of previous works Estimated time schedule and budget. Kilkenny. Notes: • The public art working group may, in certain circumstances, consider completed artworks that adhere to and fulfil the brief.
