Buongiorno. You would have thought that after a day of sailing over mountains and climbing steep slopes in Montallegro (thisitalianlife.blogspot.it/) that I would have been happy to stay on level ground for a week or two, but no. What you are looking at is the magnificent Villa Durazzo in Santa Margherita Ligure, with a shadowy view of the Durazzo familys private church to the left. To reach the villa and the church you have to climb up several sets of steep stone steps, I don’t know how many steps but certainly enough to cause you (I mean me) to stop and catch your breath more than once. The villa is the seat of the University of Genoa’s Italian Language Program, with summer classes held every August. This is where I spent my first August in Italy, trudging up steep stone steps five days a week to be grilled by humorless, strict, Italian grammar maniacs. Did I say I loved every minute of it? I did.
